Sunrise Festival is the only annual multi-faceted festival roving from city to city in Maharlika (Philippines). Its purpose is to nationally promote social and cultural transformation.

 

The first Sunrise Festival was held in Sugbo (Cebu) in 2003 and on its 10th year recurrence, the festival is back here. Sugbo has played a great role in the history of Maharlika, and has a rich cultural heritage. The local people, Sugboanons, are by nature artistic and patriotic, with leadership qualities capable of creating change.

 

This Sunrise Festival is a turning point.

    1. A venue for your help raising funds for typhoon Yolanda victims

    2. An event that once every hour brief presentation of relief effort

    3. It also aims to help us gain control over the health of

       (a) our own bodies and minds   (b) Sugbo itself – its environment

 

The festival is an opportunity to give Service to our fellow brothers & sister who had been a victim of calamities, this also to enlighten & empower ourselves – so that through our own growing knowledge and networks we become better able to doctor our own health and lead our own society. Only if we change ourselves is it possible for the whole to change. Our new consciousness awakens – TO PARTICIPATE AND TO COLLECTIVELY DEFINE CHANGE AND ENRICHMENT.

Events & Workshops

The Maharlika Artists and Writers' Federation (MAWF)1 has been promoting peace and progress throughout our nation through the Arts and Literature since 2003. It the only "Roving Arts Festival" in our proud country, moving from to a different city each year. The very first festival was held in Cebu City in 2003. Now, on the Sunrise Festival's 10th Anniversary , it is happily returning to wonderful Cebu City on November 22-24, 2013.

 

Preparation for this year's Maharlika's Sunrise Festival 2013 is now underway. The theme for this year is “Healthy You – Healthy Sugbo : Fund Raiser for Typhoon Yolanda Victims". This year's festival will focus primarily in helping the victims of the stated calamity, to this also will gather artists from many different fields, providing them a venue to stimulate and share their talents to promote natural health and foods, yoga, encouraging the adoption of long-term healthy lifestyles, and to share the solutions to individual and societal problems and issues that are detrimental to the health of our citizenry.

 

During the event there will be once every hour brief presentation of relief effort, and for the Expo will feature concerts, visual arts displays, healthy cooking classes and food tastings, art & music therapies, writing classes, arts & crafts for kids, fitness & yoga classes, presentations & symposiums, and film on a variety of subjects. The entire program is a venue for every Sugboanos and guests from other cities to participate and to collectively DEFINE CHANGE AND ENRICHMENT.

 

Each year, MAWF invites local governments, civil society, businesses and corporations, and individuals to become partners in sponsoring the Sunrise Festival. The generous participation of individuals, the private sector,  and local government will be vital to the success of our advocacy campaign.
